Questions and answers

What is Run Across Switzerland 001?
A relay of four from Schaffhausen to Chiasso, across Switzerland and over the Gotthard. Every team has a support vehicle. There are no fixed legs: who runs when and how far, and which legal route you take, is your call. The first edition is limited to 50 teams.
When is it?
Planned for Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 September 2027. The date is provisional until the permits are in place — the Sunday is the Federal Day of Thanksgiving (Bettag), which we are clarifying with the cantons. If the date moves by more than two weeks, you can have your deposit refunded.
What does it cost?
A CHF 20 deposit per runner now. The entry fee isn't set yet; we expect CHF 150–250 per runner. The CHF 20 is credited. Each team organises and pays for its own vehicle, fuel, food and accommodation.
Why a deposit?
Because "I'd be in" is quick to click. Before we apply for permits and spend money, we want to know whether 200 people really want to run. The CHF 20 is the proof — for us, for the authorities and for partners.
What happens if the 200 don't come together?
Then the first edition doesn't go ahead as planned, and everyone gets their CHF 20 back. We'll announce the decision by 15 February 2027.
When do I get my deposit back?
If validation isn't reached, if the event is cancelled, or if the date changes and you can no longer make it. If it goes ahead and you drop out afterwards, the registration rules apply. Everything else is in the terms.
When is a team complete?
When all four deposits are paid. The captain can pay for all four or just for themselves. The first 50 complete teams have their place.
Can I sign up on my own?
The first edition is for complete teams of four only. Reserve a team and bring three people — or ask in your running club. We can't promise to put teams together for the first edition.
Can someone on the team be replaced?
Yes. Until registration with the entry fee you can swap runners. The deposit stays with the team. Let us know by email.
How fit do we need to be?
Honestly: about 350 km divided by four is 85 to 90 km per person, spread over 30 to 40 hours, including the night and the Gotthard. You don't have to be ultrarunners, but you need to run regularly and cope with a sleepless night.
Can we really run wherever we want?
Anywhere pedestrians are allowed. Motorways, expressways, the Gotthard road tunnel and closed sections are forbidden. If the authorities require checkpoints, we build them in. The rules are on the route page.
Do we need our own vehicle?
Yes, one support vehicle per team with a driver. The crew pays no entry fee. How many people you bring is up to you.
How is time measured?
With one GPS tracker per team, plus timing at start and finish. The recorded line is checked. Anyone who runs through a red zone is not ranked.
Is the event permitted?
Not yet. Permits, insurance and the safety concept are the next steps after validation. A liability waiver doesn't replace a permit — we plan with the cantons, not around them.
What about safety and weather?
There is a race control that can be reached around the clock, mandatory night kit and a protocol for pass closures and dangerous weather. Snow on the Gotthard is rare in September, but possible. Then the section is neutralised.
Who is behind it?
A small team from the running scene around runBADEN. If the event is confirmed, we'll found a company for it.
